Before beginning to learn the Tajweed rules, one must know how to read the Quran in the most basic way. For example, one should know the 28 letters in the Arabic alphabet and the three short vowels and three long vowels. Moreover, one should have a basic idea of how the letters sound and how they interact with the vowels. After learning the basics of reading the Quran, the Quran learner can begin their journey to mastering Tajweed rules of the Quran. If you think you are not ready to learn Tajweed rules yet, we suggest that you enroll in our “How to Read the Quran” course.
What will you learn in our Tajweed course?
Learning Tajweed is very similar to learning phonetics of other languages. For example, one of the things that one will learn is the places of articulation of letters in terms of how they should sound and which part of the vocal tract is used to produce their sounds. Some other Tajweed rules include:
characteristics of letters
thickness and thinness of letters
rules of the unvowelled nūn and mīm
ghunnah (nasalization)
the qalqalah mechanism
the lengthening and shortening of long vowels
Of course, these rules will be explained in a simple and step-by-step fashion with many examples to help the learner internalize them and implement them in their recitation.
