The Virtue of Reciting the Quran in Narrations:

  1. Light and Goodness: Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Illuminate your houses with the recitation of the Quran… For the house in which the Quran is frequently recited, its goodness increases, its inhabitants are enriched, and it shines for the inhabitants of heaven as the stars shine for the inhabitants of earth.”[7]
  2. Combatting Satan: Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Nothing is harder on Satan than reading in the Mus’haf (Quran).”[8]
  3. Polishing the Hearts: Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Indeed, the hearts rust just as iron rusts.” When asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what polishes it?” He said, “The recitation of the Quran and the remembrance of death.”[9]

  5. Cause for Forgiveness: It is narrated that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “For the teacher of the Quran and the learner, everything, even the fish in the sea, seek forgiveness for them.”[11]
  6. A Door to Blessings and the Place of Angels: Imam Ali (AS) said: “The house in which the Quran is recited, and Allah, the Almighty, is remembered, its blessings increase, the angels attend it, and the devils abandon it, and it shines for the inhabitants of heaven as the planets shine for the inhabitants of earth.”[12]
  7. Protection from Punishment: Imam Ali (AS) also said: “Read the Quran and memorize it, for Allah, the Almighty, does not punish a heart that has memorized the Quran.”[13]
  8. Relief from Punishment: Imam Sadiq (AS) said: “Whoever reads the Quran in the Mus’haf (book form) will be blessed with good eyesight, and the punishment will be lightened for his parents, even if they were disbelievers.”[14]
  9. Otherworldly Effects of Reciting the Quran: Imam Sadiq (AS) also said: “Whoever recites the Quran while being a young believer, the Quran mixes with his flesh and blood. Allah will place him with the righteous and truthful scribes. The Quran will intercede for him on the Day of Judgment and say, ‘O Lord, every worker has received the reward for his work except my worker, so grant him the most generous of Your gifts.’ Then Allah will dress him in two garments from Paradise, and place on his head a crown of dignity, then it will be said to the Quran, ‘Are you pleased with him?’ The Quran will say, ‘Yes.'”[15]
  10. Degrees in Paradise through Reciting the Quran (Read and Ascend): Imam Zain al-Abideen (AS) said: “Adhere to the Quran, for Allah created Paradise with His hand, a brick of gold and a brick of silver, its mortar is musk, its soil is saffron, its pebbles are pearls, and He made its degrees according to the verses of the Quran. So whoever recites the Quran, Allah, the Exalted, will say to him, ‘Read and ascend.’ And whoever enters Paradise from them will not be in a higher degree in Paradise except the Prophets and the Truthful.”[16]
